Ledaig 2005 17YO Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml (SV) (ABV64%)

Introduction

This single malt whisky was distilled in 2005 at the Ledaig Distillery on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. It was then placed in a single refill Sherry Butt no less than 17 years. Bottled with natural colour and no chill-filtration at a whopping 64.9% ABV from cask number 900043 as part of the Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection. Only 463 bottles were produced.

Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name Signatory was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found.

Signatory currently bottle at three strengths: 43%, 46% Unchillfiltered (UCF) and Cask Strength. To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.

Nose – Smoked stewed fruits of pear and apple combine with salty sea air and aromas of seaweed. New leather and polished oak with some cured meats and a hint of iodine.

Palate – Creamy and smoky, sweet fruits with nutmeg and clove. Smoked butter and yellow stone fruits, hints of orange peel and soot.

Finish – Medium, cigar box and pencil shavings, dark toffee and stewed pear with an ashy smoke and soft well integrated spices. Needs a little time open or in the glass this one. But if you have the patience you’ll be rewarded!
